Visibility of RF ablation lesions in native T1-weighted MRI reduces with time after ablation

چکیده
Background Cardiac RF ablation is a widely accepted procedure for treatment of ventricular tachycardia and atrial fibrillation. Late gadolinium enhanced MRI (LGE-MRI) can be used to assess RF ablation lesions. However, LGE-MRI requires contrast injection and the visibility of lesions and appearance considerably change with time after the injection. Recently, native (non-contrast) T1-weighted (T1w) MRI was proposed to visualize RF lesions immediately postablation. The main aim of this work was to study how the visibility and volume of RF lesions in native T1w MRI changes with time after ablation.

T2*-weighted MRI technique for visualization of RF ablation lesions
Background LGE-MRI is widely used to assess cardiac RF ablation lesions. However, LGE-MRI requires contrast injection and the appearance, dimensions and visibility of lesions in LGE-MRI noticeably change with time after ablation and time after contrast injection. Recently proposed non-contrast T1-weighted (T1w) technique is only applicable to visualize acute (< 3 days) RF lesions. The main goal...
متن کاملVisualization and temporal/spatial characterization of cardiac radiofrequency ablation lesions using magnetic resonance imaging.
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to describe a system and method for creating, visualizing, and monitoring cardiac radiofrequency ablation (RFA) therapy during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). METHODS AND RESULTS RFA was performed in the right ventricular apex of 6 healthy mongrel dogs with a custom 7F nonmagnetic ablation catheter (4-mm electrode) in a newly developed real-time inte...
متن کاملComparison between immediately and next day post RF ablation MRI in patients with atrial fibrillation
Background Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia affecting more than 5 million people in North America and Europe. Radio-frequency ablation (RFA) is effective in symptomatic, drug refractory AF. Reported success rates of the procedure vary significantly with AF recurrences ranging from 25-40%. The transmural extent of left atrial (LA) wall injury is difficult to assess ...
متن کاملCardiovascular magnetic resonance guided ablation and intra-procedural visualization of evolving radiofrequency lesions in the left ventricle
BACKGROUND Radiofrequency (RF) ablation has become a mainstay of treatment for ventricular tachycardia, yet adequate lesion formation remains challenging. This study aims to comprehensively describe the composition and evolution of acute left ventricular (LV) lesions using native-contrast cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) during CMR-guided ablation procedures. METHODS RF ablation was pe...
متن کاملPET and MRI-guided focused ultrasound surgery for hypoxic-tissue ablation combined with radiotherapy in solid tumors
Background: The rationale was to develop an ablation approach to destroy regions of tumor resistant to radiation and thus reduce the time required for whole tumor ablation, while improving overall tumor control after radiotherapy. Materials and Methods: The system is composed of a micro positron emission tomography (mPET), 7T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and a customized MRI-compatible foc...
